Summer Transition Programme
Summer Transition Programme
Braes High School is fully comprehensive teaching S1 to S6 with a current roll of approximately 1,000 pupils. As part of our self-evaluation on How Good Is Our School? Quality Indicator: 3.1 Ensuring Wellbeing, Equality and Inclusion, our Onwards and Upwards team worked collaboratively with Community Learning and Development (CLD) on a summer transition programme to support transition from primary to secondary.
The Summer Transitions programme is a collaborative initiative between Onwards and Upwards (PEF) and CLD to provide a weekly summer club for a group of pupils who have low SIMD and a range of barriers.
The programme is free and provides pupils with lunch and a range of different activities through the programme. These include trips to the beach, Xtreme karting, Eek escape room, Laser quest and Edinburgh Dungeons. The ethos behind the programme is provide opportunities for pupils who may not be able to afford it so they can have fun experiences during the summer holidays.
In 2019, 14 pupils accessed the programme. The programme will be developed further this session with more pupils accessing the programme which will be extended throughout the year.
