Staff Wellbeing Buddies
Our school is dramatically increasing with many new members of staff, so our HWB champion planned a Buddy system for all staff.
All staff were invited to join the HWB Team and put their name forward to be an anonymous buddy. From here our HWB co-ordinator then randomly matched member of staff. It is worth noting this included all staff - Janitors, PSW’s, teacher and office staff.
From here staff where encouraged to keep a ‘look out’ for their buddy whilst remain anonymous. This took the form of small gifts for example a coffee and biscuit for break time. Regularly checking in with staff member to make sure all is well and share any concerns. This encouraged staff who maybe didn’t spend time together to get to know each other a little better. After 1 full term we had a reveal gathering where buddies were guessed and shared. This was an overwhelming success and it was agreed that the HWB champion would offer new buddies in the next term.
This initiative was implement slightly before pandemic and got off to a great start. We noted that during remote learning staff were very creative about how they kept in touch with their buddy. Once back in school staff where very keen to get involved in the second round.
Our staff wellbeing surveys show that staff valued the opportunity to make new connections with staff in our expanding school.
