Skills Academy: to develop learners' and staff's understanding of transferrable skills across learning.
Following the release of the refreshed narrative in 2019, we consulted with learners regarding our BGE curriculum. Learners highlighted that they were aware of certain skills but struggled to identify skills across learning. This was also highlighted by our Skills Development Scotland Careers Adviser. Therefore, we made changes to our BGE curriculum to incorporate dedicated skills rotation periods in a range of subjects. This has been further developed over the last year and has incorporated staff and learner collaboration on a variety of learning approaches for the development of transferable skills.
“Swapping around after 6 weeks, this gave us more variety and we got to see more teachers”.
“There are no tests and less pressure on you”.
“Teachers need to enjoy it too. It’s better when we all discuss things”.
“Random classes that were different from our practical sets”.
