Developing literacy through IDL and a play-based learning
Developing literacy through IDL and a play-based learning
In primary one, learning is predominantly carried forward using the children's interests. This IDL topic begins with a provocation by the teacher and then learning experiences are carried forward in relation to children's interests and any developmental needs identified. The main aim was to create a context to motivate children to develop their literacy skills.
Based around a Fairyland topic, a dragon suddenly appears in class asking the children to help save Fairlyland.
Thereafter, children plan the experiences and ideas for each story after it is introduced, and practitioner observations inform what provocations and resources will be added to the environment. The enclosed PowerPoint will share the journey of what was done and how this developed.
