Christmas Creativity Challenge
Christmas Creativity Challenge
We were aiming to increase family engagement and use of our Connected Falkirk iPads. I decided to make a Christmas Creativity Challenge and promoted this both within the school and via social media for parents and carers.
I created 12 creativity challenges each with a Christmas theme. Each challenge taught a new skills or feature of the apps on our iPads. I then created a Thinglink to host the challenges in and "unlocked" a new challenge each day.
Our Digital Leaders did an announcement in school each morning detailing that day's challenge and again this was promoted on the family learning twitter feed.
Families could submit their completed challenges via a Microsoft Form.
Each challenge was screen recorded and narrated to give video instructions to parents and carers of how to complete it. The video was then uploaded to Flipgrid which produced closed captions for those families that needed that type of support. The videos were all short and each under 10 minutes in length.
The ThingLink was created with complete links to each of the videos and challenges in place. I duplicated it and then removed the links for each of the days. This copy is the one I shared with families and each day I would add in a link to that day's challenge.
We had 549 views of the ThingLink and had a few completed challenges submitted via hte form embedded in it. Some families emailed their completed challenges instead. Lots of pupils showed me their completed challenges or things they had created because of learning a new app feature or skill on their iPad.
