Braes on Screen and Braes Bites
Braes High School is fully comprehensive teaching S1 to S6 with a current roll of approximately 1,000 pupils. As part of our self-evaluation on How Good Is Our School? we consulted partners on a range of school improvement/evaluation questions. When consulting partners during the planning of our “Onwards & Upwards” strategy an area for development identified by Parents/Carers was a lack of knowledge in what young people were learning in school and a lack of confidence from families in how best to support their young person at home.
In response to this consultation we have explored various approaches to raise awareness about school activities and make learning more accessible. By doing this we hope to increase Parent/Carer engagement in school life and improve confidence in how best to support learners.
Braes on Screen uses YouTube to upload school events to allow Parents/Carers and pupils to engage with school activities at their convenience. Braes Bites are a series of short videos with pupils demonstrating learning to raise awareness of what learning is taking place and to provide support for learning at home. Videos currently online include “Hands only CPR”, “Tips for Learning Vocabulary in Modern Languages” as well as tutorials from our Digital Leaders on using natural reader and uploading to Glow and more.
This session we have seen a 241% increase in engagement through Braes on Screen and a 133% increase in subscribers to our digital content on YouTube.
