Braes High School - Virtual Course Choice and Careers Platform
For some years now Braes High School has been running a very successful Careers Event. Due to the circumstances of the past few years, the format of this event had to be adapted from our traditional event. Ordinarily this event is informal with small groups of young people being encouraged to speak to as many people as possible from a wide range of employment areas to find out more about different jobs.
We have run this alongside a Course Choice Event, where pupils are able to learn about the variety of courses on offer, prior to making their selection for the following year.
Given that this was not possible we sought a different support from our staff and partners. We requested information by ways of a promotional video or short video about their courses and their industry. This was pulled together to create our online platform, which is now a live support for all year round. This is continually updated and new courses are added when necessary.
Using ThingLink as the platform, we were able to pull together all the support offered and created this online resource for parents/carers/staff/partners but most importantly our pupils.
As this is a live online platform, we no longer rely on attendance at an event, which in itself can create barriers for some families looking to learn the best route for each young person. This resource is accessible for all and is used across our curriculum.
