BGE Assessment Guide
BGE Assessment Guide
As part of the recovery plan for Session 2020-21, a resource was created to support parents more effectively with home learning and offer a greater understanding of the BGE including the way that pupils are assessed. This would effectively 'demystify' elements of the BGE by giving parents as much practical information as possible in a concise and meaningful way.
I did research into the kind of resources currently available in school around the country and then met with the PT of Family Learning to discuss what this resource should look like. We took our ideas to the Family Learning Working Group and the format was decided upon after consultation with SMT. Each Faculty Head created a document that included faculty specific information. This was collated and taken to the Parent Council who gave some helpful feedback which was used to create the final document which has been disseminated to parents.
The approach involved careful research, collaboration with staff across the school, consultation with senior management and discussion with parents and carers. We listened to what parents' needs were and implemented their suggestions to create a document that is accessible and informative.
In the longer term, this is a document that can be updated with each new session and as information changed.
The immediate benefits are that this document gives parents all the information that they need to understand the learning journey that their young person will undertake this year. It also offers support for those who are working from home if they are isolating, unwell or if a move to home or blended learning were to take place again.
Feedback from parents/staff has been extremely positive so far but this will need to be assessed in the longer term. However, here are a couple of examples of feedback below:
"Great stuff and very useful for us in careers as well"
"Just a wee email about the document. It’s fantastic"
"This is looking really good (and should be fairly future proof too)"
